GMail features - Wishlist

Undoubtedly, labs is one of the coolest features in GMail. Below are some of  features, I would like to have in GMail.
1. Annotations inside E-Mail.
Sometimes, we need to add some more information to the mail, without sending it to anybody. I save them in drafts. Another work-around would be to add the mail to the 'Tasks List'  and edit the description. But having a feature where we can add some Notes to the Mail is something more useful and easier.

2. Sync GMail settings between accounts
I have customised my regular GMail ID with various labels, themes, lab features, filters, spam filters and other settings. After getting another GMail ID (GMail App from my employer), I have to repeat the process of customising the new one. Though the work-around would be to forward all the mails to my regular ID, it still has some backbacks. If there is any feature using which I can just copy all the settings to another ID, it would be awesome.

3. Attachments from Google Docs / Google Drive(Or Whatever you call it)
Instead of attaching a file from our computer, an option of attaching a file from Google storage or Google docs, while composing mail would make our life easier.

4. Return receipts.
Quite often we need to acknowledge the mail to the sender. This can be easier, if there is a option of sending a return receipt of the mail.

5. Unsubscribe from particular thread in Google Groups
Google allows us to either subscribe to all the mails or do not subscribe any or get a daily digest. But what about the gray area? I am interested in reading all the mails from the group, but some subjects are completely irrelevant to me. Added to the problem,it appears in the top of my Inbox every time somebody adds to the thread. If there is a option of unsubscribing/ archiving a particular thread, it would save some time.

Wordpress Bug

I was just posting on to my blog at trimbill.com/blog. Yes that's my new venture. ll write a post about that soon.

This is hosted using wordpress plugin provided by my webhost, GoDaddy.

Now, the post had this headline,
"New Internet Connection… Help!!"

So, by default setting of wordpress, it set the permalink of the post to
http://trimbill.com/blog/2009/10/new-internet-connection…-help

By commonsense, These dots in the url are sure to create problem.

If you go to that page, there is a 404 error.
Also, Because of this, comments cannot be posted.


So, whats the solution?
I got over it by manually editing the permalink to
http://trimbill.com/blog/2009/10/new-internet-connection/

Wordpress can fix it by ignoring the dots while creating the permalink automatically using the title of the post. Hope they ll consider this.

Why Firefox still scores over Google Chrome

A lot have been talked about Google chrome. Rounding up , Its better because , it wont crash, is very fast, makes good use of the real estate on your display, manages downloads, operate in incognito mode etc. Its scores negative in few features like, dropdown bar in the url field is absent, history can be viewed date wise only, no extensions, privacy invasion etc.

In this post, I am ‘throwing some light’ on more drawbacks/bugs.

1. If the link is opened in new tab, the color doesn’t change till you refresh.
The search term in the screenshot is “google chrome”. We can see that the first and second links are purple colored indicating that the link is present in the history, while others, which aren’t in the history, are blue in color.

Now, lets open the wikipedia link, which is still blue, indicating that the link is unopened.
Even after opening those links in new tabs, the color doesn’t change until you refresh the page.

2. What the heck is this?


I get this whenever I close the chrome and reopen with a google search result page open. Interestingly, it happens only for the google page.

3. While we switch tabs, the page is white for a brief period of time. More heavy the page is, greater is this time, sometime to the tune of 7-8 secs. Sometimes, it makes the user wonder that the page is really blank.

4. While the picture attachments in gmail are being opened, loading is not shown.While in the firefox, we know something is still getting loaded in that mail.

5. Gtalk window is not fully compatible! Just do this to know. open any gtalk window and then resize your chrome window, first make it small and again enlarge... poof! your gtalk window is gone. Or put your cursor on any text in the gtalk window and drag down using your mouse. Now did you get that white patch in the bottom?

Here is a compilation of some basic improvements that can be made in further releases.
a. ? searches using the default search engine. A similar hot key in the address bar which will mock the 'I'm feeling lucky' button is needed.
b. User must be able to customise the new tab page with his own set of thumbnails.
c. More similar customisation settings are needed for more advanced users.
d. I didnt understand why the forward button is inactive while I m in Gmail page.
e. Last but not the least, holy cow, I cant see the title of the webpage at all, as the title bar itself is removed.

Hope these issues are addressed in the subsequent releases.

Here is a hack that enables you to save a couple of bucks if u r already a member r otherwise.
1. For yet-to-become members,
Sign up as usual, and check the Promotional code checkbox. Now google out "librarywala +promotion code" with r without quotes.


Just check the first two results, first is of barclaycard and the second is of axisbank. I guess the barclaycard offer is over, so use the axisbank promotion code "libaxis639" and sign-up... gr8 you just saved at Rs.499 membership fees.
ok... let me clarify... It doesnt really matter weather you are using axis bank credit-card or any other mode of payment, it just goes unnoticed.



2. For existing members,

As you might already know, If you refer 5 of your friends, you will be getting 1 year of free subscription. So, you can use the same strategy to register 5 of your friends.
Simple math will show you how much you will be saving.
Registration of 5 persons will cost you Rs.638x5 = Rs.3190 of which Rs499x5 = Rs.2495 is refundable once they unsubscribe, thus costing you net Rs.695.
Considering you are in the cubic plan, you are saving.1400-Rs.695 =Rs.705, and if you're in the classic plan you are saving Rs.3000-Rs.695 = Rs. 2305 flat.

Just do it before this gets fixed... wiki wiki...

Bookmyshow.com hack

Bookmyshow.com is one of the premier sites for booking movies in India. This hack is about blocking all the seats in the cinemahall.
First, lets start reserving. Choose the city, theater and the show. At one time, we can reserve maximum of 6 seats only(in some halls, it is 10). So, reserve 6 seats and press ‘Continue’, then ‘Pay Now’ and you will be taken to the payment options page.

Now, open a new tab/window and repeat the process. Keep doing this in new tabs until all the seats are blocked.

Well, It can be solved by looking at the IP address from where the request is coming...
Two things to consider,
One, you gotta be fast to block them, as the seats get unblocked after 10 minutes automatically. Two, online booking won't be available few hours (in some cases 2 hrs) prior to the show.
If you feel lazy to keep it doing by yourself, use any macro recorder like jitbit and keep it running on a machine, sit back and enjoy... Nobody will be able to book the tickets until u give up...LOL...
Same logic can be applied to other similar sites too(Works out in inoxmovies.com too)...Please update in the comment section if anybody tries in other sites.

Our movie 'Mera Number Kab Aayega' is out under the banner 'SVNIT Talkies' . Though the venture started for some competition, it could not be completed by then. At last Late Latif has successfully completed the video, this time for entertainment purpose only. Other jobless people who took the risk were Suhas,Ashwin, Nikhil and many more.... look at the credits.
